Joseph Stella: Visionary Nature explores the artist’s life-long fascination with the natural world. The catalogue accompanies an exhibition organized by the High Museum of Art and the Brandywine River Museum—the first major museum exhibition devoted to Stella’s nature-themed works.

The book includes 137 plates filled with brightly colored flora, landscapes, and fruits, while the text provides a comprehensive chronology of Stella’s career.

Purissima, 1927

By placing Stella’s body of nature-themed imagery into a larger dialogue with his industrial landscapes, the authors consider how Stella’s Italian identity, understanding of Renaissance traditions, and expression of spirituality impacted his prolific career.
