Note: Arthur Vidal Diehl is known for his beach scenes, which often depict rolling sand dunes. He painted many coastal images in Cape Cod and throughout the northeast.
Born in London in 1870, Arthur Vidal Diehl immigrated to New York City about 1891. Largely self taught—though he possibly studied for a short time in Milan—he exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1899. He was best known for his dunescapes and beach and harbor scenes of Cape Cod, and Fox Movietone produced a short film of Diehl working in Provincetown in the 1920s. He was known to work quickly from memory, and to converse with his patrons as they watched
