Artist Biography
Charles Volkmar became an American landscape painter of international repute during the latter half of the nineteenth century. He was born in Maryland and inherited his family’s artistic genes; his grandfather was an engraver and his father a Dresden trained portraitist, etcher, and restorer. Evidently, Bayre enhanced his ability to model two-dimensional form in paint and Harpignies imbued his brush with a lush softness in its approach to landscape.
Volkmar exhibited widely at the Paris Salon, National
