Artist Biography

Warren Sheppard was an established turn-of-the-century marine painter whose passion for sailing extended beyond his artistic subjects. Sheppard also designed and navigated racing yachts, which he sailed throughout the New England coast. He won the famous New York-to-Bermuda race and wrote and illustrated two books, “Practical Navigation” and “A Tale of the Sea.” His painting career was equally successful; after training under Mauritz De Haas, he created a body of work full of detailed sailing pictures and luminous moonlit seascapes.
