Artist Biography

Born in 1896 in Wakefield, Massachusetts, Aiden Lassell Ripley developed an affinity for the outdoors at a young age. His subject matter was deeply influenced by his early experience as a sportsman in the wooded landscape surrounding his childhood home. Ripley attended The School of the Boston Museum of Art, where he trained under Phillip Hale and, in 1924, was awarded a Paige Traveling Fellowship, which allowed him to study art in France, Holland and North Africa.
