Artist Biography

Born in New York, Gifford Beal painted throughout New England, as well as on visits to Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Bermuda, and even West Africa. He studied with William Merritt Chase both in New York and at Chase’s famed Shinnecock Summer School, and later at the Art Students League. He was a member of the National Academy, American Watercolor Society, and Century Association.
