Artist Biography

Known for his serene landscapes and vast panoramas, Carl Wuermer was born in Munich, Germany, and immigrated to the United States in 1915, settling in Chicago. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago from 1920 to 1924, under Wellington Reynolds, and later at the Art Students League in New York. His work was included in annual exhibitions at the Art Institute of Chicago between 1924 and 1931, and at the National Academy of Design from 1924 to 1938, where he won the prestigious J.
