Note: Oliver Dennett Grover first traveled to Venice in 1880 alongside a group of young artists studying with Frank Duveneck (1848–1930), a leading painter and respected teacher. Grover would return to Italy throughout his career and painted numerous Venetian scenes. In this work, he depicts Palazzo Marcello, a 15th-century residence of the noble Marcello family which today houses the Palazzo Marcello Hotel Al Sole. The palace colors reflect onto the canal water as several figures cross Ponte de Ca’ Marcello on the left.
