Notes

Trained as a sketch artist for various high-profile newspapers, Shinn’s specialty was quick, pastel works that emphasized the spontaneity and rapid pace of urban life in New York City.

Alfredo Valente (1899–1973) was a prominent photographer known for his images of theatre, especially Broadway, as well as an avid collector of the painters of his era.
