He attended Peekskill Military Academy and studied painting under Edward Moran and at the Art Students League of New York. From 1887 to 1890, he exhibited at the National Academy of Design and the Paris Salon Laurence was a member of the Royal Society of British Artists and the Salmagundi Club.
