Note
In the summer of 1871, Thomas Moran, then an illustrator for Harper’s Weekly, was invited to join the 1871 Yellowstone Geological Survey as the official artist, making a significant turning point in his career. This painting was originally created as an illustration for Harper’s Weekly, faithfully depicting the majestic Teton Range as he saw it. Through Moran’s work, the American public was able to witness the breathtaking beauty of the untamed wilderness of the West, laying a solid foundation for future efforts in nature conservation and the establishment of national parks.
