Note
Upon moving to New York, Moran began a series of works depicting the city’s waterways, capturing its transformation into a thriving commercial center during some of its most dynamic years. At the 1877 Academy exhibition in New York, he presented this painting with an asking price of $3,000—well above his standard prices.[1] Over his long and successful career, Edward Moran became a member of the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts and an Associate of the National Academy of Design.
