Note: As a self-taught artist, Prentice was renowned for his highly realistic still-life paintings. After moving to Brooklyn, New York, in 1883, he began to focus exclusively on still lifes, particularly of fruit. His works are celebrated for their precise rendering of color, form, and texture, showcasing his exceptional skill.

Prentice’s paintings are held in the collections of many major art institutions including the New York State Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Montclair Art Museum, and the Yale University Art Gallery, and are also highly sought after by private collectors.
