Note

Platt was deeply influenced by the distinctive work of Philadelphia-based trompe l’oeil painters William Harnett (1848–1892) and John Peto (1854–1907). This interest in verisimilitude is evident in the way Platt handles the texture of the flowers and their reflection off the polished surface of the wood.
