Leon Kroll was a highly accomplished painter, lithographer, teacher and art critic. Born in New York, he studied at the Art Students League of New York under John Henry Twachtman in the late 1800s. Kroll’s achievements were extensive, earning him awards from institutions such as the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Salmagundi Club, the Pan-Pacific Exposition, the Art Institute of Chicago, the National Academy of Design, the Carnegie Institute, the National Arts Club, the International Exposition in Paris, and many more. Beyond his figurative work, he drew inspiration from his surroundings, painting landscapes and seascapes such as Pulpit Rock near his summer home in Maine.
