Note: Mount Mansfield is a group of peaks in Vermont’s Green Mountains, which are said to resemble a man’s face. Richard William Hubbard visited the area in the summer of 1858 on a sketching trip with his friend and fellow Hudson River School painter Sanford Robinson Gifford. Soon after, Mount Mansfield became a popular tourist attraction appreciated for its spectacular views.
