In Moon Memory, as in many of Blakelock’s “skyscapes”—a term used by Norman Geske in Beyond Madness: The Art of Ralph Albert Blakelock—the composition represents an open-sky landscape characteristic of the period preceding Blakelock’s first confinement in a mental institution. These works demonstrate an increasingly internalized vision, in which the sky, trees, and water are rendered in more abstract forms.[1]
