Note

De Voll’s New York City works often focus on urban landmarks, most notably Madison Square, which he painted repeatedly. He depicted bustling squares with a subdued palette and soft tonal transitions, capturing the atmosphere and light, while conveying a quiet, poetic view of urban life. De Voll exhibited widely during his lifetime, won a silver medal at the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition, and is held in collections such as the Milwaukee Art Museum, Everson Museum, and Rhode Island Historical Society.
