Note
Born in Evans Creek, Ohio, Alexander Wyant committed to being a painter after seeing George Inness’s landscapes in an exhibition in Cincinnati. After studying in Europe, Wyant moved to New York City, where he frequently traveled to the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains to paint their scenic views. Wyant had a summer house in Keene Valley, where John’s Brook is located. Wyant’s paintings can be found in collections including the Brooklyn Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.
Anthony Battelle was a Wyant scholar and built an online catalog for Wyant’s work.
