Note: The Ramapo Valley surrounds the Ramapo River in New York near the New Jersey state line. Jasper Francis Cropsey created numerous depictions of the area throughout his career. The rolling hills and wooded landscape provided the artist with ample subject matter for his autumnal scenes, and he owned a home in nearby Warwick, New York. Cropsey exhibited a larger depiction of the Ramapo Valley at the National Academy of Design.
