Note
After emigrating from Glasgow, Scotland in his youth, Thomas Lochlan Smith settled in Albany with his family. While he later moved to New York City, upstate New York remained the primary setting for Smith’s landscapes. Over the course of his career, he exhibited his paintings at the National Academy of Design’s Annual Exhibitions and became an Associate of the Academy in 1869.
