Note

Blakelock suffered his first mental breakdown while living with his brother George in Brooklyn. He was taken to Flatbush Insane Asylum, which was just south of Prospect Park. It was during this time that Blakelock made this drawing. He was released from Flatbush just a week after being committed and pronounced cured. Prospect Park Edge of Common depicts a road entering Prospect Park, likely on the south end of the park, near Flatbush Avenue.
