George McCord, a second-generation Hudson River School painter known for marine and landscape works, studied with Samuel Morse and James Fairman and exhibited at the National Academy of Design by 1870. He traveled widely, including the Grand Canyon, Europe, and Scotland where he was commissioned by Andrew Carnegie to paint scenery around his castle. McCord elected an Associate of the National Academy in 1880 and showed his work nationally.[1] His paintings are featured in many museums including Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Brooklyn Museum, The Nelson‑Atkins Museum of Art, among many others.
