Note: Eric Sloane painted autumnal scenes throughout Connecticut and New England. He described, “My love affair with New England has been no happenstance: I feel certain that no landscape is blessed with greater color during the fall,” continuing, “The moral character of man may be likened to the autumn scene: leaves falling like our years, the sun growing colder like our affections, a time for harvest and reflection, of preparing for the eventual winter of old age, a season of melancholy and sadness mixed with satisfaction and the joy of having lived.”_[1]
