Note
William Trost Richards was a renowned Hudson River School painter known for his seascapes. Starting in the 1870s, he dedicated himself to capturing the ocean, spending countless hours observing the sea and studying the interplay of light and water.
He excelled at depicting the varying moods and atmospheres of the ocean, from serene, calm waters to waves crashing dramatically against rocky shores. Coastal Scene stands out as a particularly distinctive work of Richard’s, both in its palette and its mood. This painting not only showcases the raw power of the ocean but also highlights Richards’ exceptional ability to capture its energy and force.
