Note
Waugh’s marine seascapes received widespread critical acclaim, earning him the Popular Prize at the Carnegie International Exhibition for five consecutive years—an unprecedented achievement unmatched by any other artist. He additionally served as a camouflage artist for the U.S. Navy, with many ships constructed according to his designs—vessels that were famously considered unsinkable.
