Note: Flora Whitney Miller (1897–1986) was the daughter of Gertrude Vanderbilt and Harry Payne Whitney and was a great collector and patron of the arts. In 1927, she married her second husband G. Macculloch Miller. This work was commissioned from the artist by the Miller family and depicts the York River on Gaspé Peninsula, Québec, one of the most desirable locales for Atlantic salmon fishing.
