Edward Henry Potthast moved to New York City in 1895, where he began painting his celebrated beach scenes. The artist frequented Coney Island and Rockaway Beach in New York, as well as seaside towns in Massachusetts and Maine. His impressionistic paintings capture leisurely beach goers enjoying the day.
