Note
In 1925, Sloane traveled throughout the Northeast, developing a deep appreciation for early American history, culture, and architecture, especially covered bridges, barns, and colonial-era homes. Known as an “expert of early Americana,” he saw these structures as windows into the nation’s past, embodying the spirit of early America even as they became relics of a vanishing history.[1] Sloane’s work is held in museum collections including the Bennington Center for the Arts, the Burchfield Penny Art Center at SUNY, and the Addison Gallery of American Art.
