Norman A. Geske, one of the foremost scholars of Ralph Albert Blakelock, authenticated this work and identified it as an example of the artist’s early landscape style, characterized by a golden-gray palette and a light, nuanced handling of paint and texture.

Maynard Walker was one of New York’s most influential American art dealers during the mid-twentieth century. Although he is best known for his representation of American Regionalist painters such as Thomas Hart Benton, Grant Wood, and John Steuart Curry, his gallery also handled important early twentiethcentury American paintings, including landscapes Blakelock.

This painting has been authenticated and catalogued by the University of Nebraska Inventory as NBI-1962, category II.
