Note
Covered bridges became an important subject matter for Eric Sloane. He traveled to many parts of the country and created his paintings from memory. In his 1985 book, he described, “I wrote the first book about American covered bridges. Since then I probably have painted as many as there are in the country. It was an exciting period in my life, which afforded me a fine consciousness of Americana.”[1]
