From his studies at Cooper Union, the National Academy of Design, and at the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation, Luigi Lucioni developed meticulous technique. In Accent on Blue, 1975, he demonstrates his high level of technical skill, precisely rendering the forms of the vessels and the drapery folds cascading across the composition. Lucioni and his still lives gained particular attention following the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s purchase of Pears with Pewter, 1930, making him the first and youngest contemporary American painter to have a painting purchased by the museum.[1]
