Note
John Singer Sargent, born to American expatriate parents in Florence, maintained a deep connection to Italy throughout his artistic career. Venice and its surrounding areas, particularly the Lake Garda region, frequently appeared in his works. Sargent conveys his admiration for the iconic setting of Lake Garda, yet his artistic vision often moved beyond conventional tourist aesthetics. While the lake is celebrated for its picturesque villages and lively shoreline, Sargent instead turned his gaze toward the highlands, capturing a quieter and less familiar landscape.
