Joseph Morviller

Artist Biography

Joseph Morviller was born in France where he grew up studying fresco painting. He later moved to Boston, Massachusetts, the city in which the near entirety of his career would be based. During his lifetime, Morviller was known for his winter scenes, which often depict people engaging in seasonal activities such as horse sledding and skating. Morviller was also renowned for his Hudson River School views of picturesque landscapes depicting New England rivers and streams. While in America, the artist exhibited in numerous venues such as the National Academy of Design, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine and the Boston Athenaeum. Paintings by Morviller are currently on display at the Boston Art Club, the Westmoreland Museum of Art, the Palmer Museum of Art and Worcester Art Museum.
