Artist Biography
Known for his crayon portraits, marines, and landscapes, John E. Grouard came to share a studio with painter Robert Spear Dunning (1829–1905). In 1859 they founded the firm of Grouard & Dunning in Fall River, Massachusetts. In 1870, they established the Fall River Evening Drawing School, a regional school known for training still-life artists that was open to anyone over fifteen years old.
