Artist Biography
François Rivoire
(1842 - 1919)
François Rivoire was a French painter best known for his still lifes. A student of Jean-Marie Regnier, he made his debut at the Paris Salon in 1866 and received several awards there during the 1880s.
Rivoire’s paintings are distinguished by meticulous realism and unforced naturalism. For instance, he captured the subtle delicacy of flowers with precision, creating works of richness and depth that convey a meditative and emotional atmosphere. While he primarily painted floral still lifes—featuring roses, peonies, and irises, both cultivated and wild—he also produced landscapes and occasional still lifes with fruit or birds.
His work is represented in museum collections across France, including the Musée du Luxembourg in Paris, as well as museums in Amiens, Lyon, and Dunkirk.
