Artist Biography
Born in upstate New York, Loveridge is best known for his pastoral landscape scenes, often featuring cows or sheep at pasture or watering. He established his studio practice by 1859, and by the late 1880s was living and working in New York City. Within that time, he fought in the Civil War and later exhibited his paintings at the Brooklyn Art Association from 1867 to 1882 and again in 1884, and periodically at the National Academy of Design between 1867 and 1899. His work is in the collection of the University of Michigan Museum of Art, and the Panhandle-Plains Historical
