Artist Biography
Born in France, Cecelia Muringer Schussele immigrated to the United States as a child with her father Casper Muringer, a lithographer. She lived and worked in Philadelphia and exhibited at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in 1878. She was married to fellow painter and French émigré Christian Schussele, best known for academic, history paintings and his work as a teacher. Cecelia was most well known for her flower paintings and still lifes.
