A talented female artist who thrived during the primarily male-dominated period of nineteenth century American painting, Olive Parker Black studied at the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League, under the tutelage of renowned American painters, Hugh Bolton Jones, William Merritt Chase, and Edwin Blashfield. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the artist spent much of her career in New York, though she often summered in the Berkshire Mountains, where she painted many of her prized landscapes.
